A life of purpose

There are so many people searching for who they are.  Searching for more purpose.

It's the age old quest for the purpose of life.  How many people though do you think actually find that purpose?

My quest brought me to Rosemary Heenan and her hand analysis services.  My frustration was overwhelming and the more overwhelmed I became the more clouded my goals.

It turns out, that I was in fact living my purpose.

That whole time I was frustrated, I was already living my purpose.

So what was the problem?

The problem was I didn't believe in myself, I didn't believe that what I was doing was important enough to be a life purpose or that it would in any way impact the world in the way that I wanted it to.

I've had the pleasure of mentoring a few clients who are struggling with their life purpose and each time the only thing standing in the way of finding that purpose was to make the decision to accept that they are living it now!

Our beliefs tell us that in order to make a difference (be on television or radio, make tons of money, give tons of money to charities, etc) we have to do something extra extra special.  And when we do that extra special thing we will feel purposeful and on purpose.

Let me ask you this "who decided what you are doing today isn't extra extra special?"

We've become ignorant to the truth of our purpose because we have been desensitized to appreciating the small things that we give to the world every day.

I'll leave you with this question for today "who would you become, if you knew that by being exactly who you are today you were already living your purpose?"

Those were the days.....

Yesterday as I made my way in to the grocery store, I noticed two gentlemen who were canvassing for donations for the Cancer Society.

At closer glance I realized one of them was a former teacher of mine from public school.  Grades 3 & 6.

I remember the first dayof Grade 3.  Having my name called out and seeing that our class was getting the new guy teacher!

Our school was filled with "old lady" teachers.  You know the ones that never smile and liked to sit the wooden discipline hand on their desk in plain view.  So this was pretty exciting.  Plus it was the first time I would be taught by a man (don't ask me why this made a difference, it just did).

He may also have been the teacher who made the most impact on me as a young girl.

Not because of anything in particular that he said to me.  He didn't single handedly defend me against a bully, or encourage me to "come out of my shell" and be more outspoken.  He didn't compliment me on my fine penmanship or pat me on the back for acing a test....

Nope......

The thing I remember the most about this teacher, is his sense of humour.

He made everything fun.

I remember one day when he came into class and instructed us to tell him step by step how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (we must have been learning about communication, or how to effectively write a story or something along those lines).  The only catch.....  He was an alien from outer space and didn't know what a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was.

I remember the giggles and screams as the entire class tried desperately to give him adequate instruction.  It was disasterous and hilarious all at the same time and we had a BLAST!  We learned the importance of clear, precise communication that day.

As I was leaving the grocery store yesterday, he approached me and asked for a donation.  I replied "sure, but only because you were my teacher in Grade 3.  The gentlemen that was with him started laughing when he said "okay, give me a minute.  I can figure this out".  And he did.  He knew the school I attended and he knew my name.  He even commented about the change in hair colour.

Not bad for an old guy :)

It's a Wonderful Life!

"It's a Wonderful Life" is my most favourite movie.  I don't wait till Christmas to watch it, I stick it in the dvd player every chance I get.

Today felt like the moment in the movie when Jimmy Stewart "comes back to life" and all of his friends file into the house emptying their pockets of all the money they have to save him from bankruptcy...

He had no idea how loved he was.  He had no idea what the people in his life would do for him.  He had no idea how his actions created a ripple effect of love and appreciation in the community around him.

It's an accurate picture of my life, really.  And probably your life too.

I do things because I want to do them, because they make me happy.  I enjoy being in the company of my friends.  I enjoy sending them notes of appreciation and encouragement.  It's easy for me to welcome people into my home, invite them to share meditation and Reiki with me.  It's easy for me to smile and embrace people.  It's easy because it's who I am.

We are all like this...  We do all kinds of things in life, thinking they are too small to make a difference because they come naturally to us.  When in actuality that sharing of what you love and those small bits of yourself transform themselves into amazing things!

For instance, you have coffee with a friend and share with them how much you appreciate them and how much you believe in who they are.  Then "POOF" one day you get a message from that friend who tells you that she's been able to move forward with a dream she has had because of your support and belief in what she has to offer.

So, just in case you've never been told.  YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Don't deny yourself the knowledge of all the good that you do in this world.  Whether you hold the door open for the next person or you spend the day cleaning the bathroom or doing the laundry.

Your impact is immeasurable because you are here and you are being what you need to be in the moment.

It's a wonderful life when you embrace the life you are living, whatever the situation.

Go on....embrace it!
